A journey through Iceland reveals natural, primordial materials: hand-spun wool, horsehair, horn, reindeer antler, lava stone and driftwood. Hand- crafted objects- each unique in the world- are made-to-order by Iceland's foremost artists and artisans. Starkness, restraint and strength of design reflect the stunning raw landscapes of the country- at once ancient and yet utterly modern.

Hand-Cut Alphabet Stone

Artist, sculptor and calligrapher Soffia Arnadottir transforms basalt stones she gathers along Iceland's black sand beaches into exquisite works of art. Soffia looks at each stone and sees a letter within waiting to become revealed. Through special etching and finishing techniques each vision comes to light for her collection called STEINN (stone.)

Pictured here is Æ, a letter unique to Icelandic. Or request your own initial below. No two are alike.
