BECOME ICELAND
A journey through Iceland reveals natural, primordial materials: hand-spun wool, horsehair, horn, reindeer antler, lava stone and driftwood. Hand- crafted objects- each unique in the world- are made-to-order by Iceland's foremost artists and artisans. Starkness, restraint and strength of design reflect the stunning raw landscapes of the country- at once ancient and yet utterly modern.
Driftwood and Leather Pendant
Driftwood piles high on Iceland's black sand beaches- for 1100 years it was the only source of wood on the treeless arctic island.
Artist, sculptor, designer and calligrapher Soffia Arnadottir transforms it- often with strands of wild horsehair- into striking totem assemblages on adjustable leather cords in her collection called REKI. The effect is a collection of timeless talismans to be worn alone or in layers. Each is hand-made but close to the one pictured here.
